Meet MCR: Phil Stallworth
Meet Phil, the man who solves our client's issues.
Name: Phil Stallworth
Position: Client Services Manager
How long have you been at MCR?
A little over 4 Years, I got hired back in 2018.
How did you find the job here?
I am a geologist and environmentalist by trade, so I’ve always been in the lab, always got my hands dirty. When recreational markets opened up I knew that there would be a need for people, and with my expertise in soil sciences I knew I wanted to help people grow better cannabis. I saw MCR and saw they were an up and coming company. I got my foot in the door as a lab tech and I’ve been here ever since.
What does your average work day look like?
My day to day varies. I get in early to check on my team and see how they’re doing, what their workload is looking like. Doing a mental check is very important to me. You have to check in so you don’t set people up for failure. Then I focus on checking on clients. I bounce between working with walk-in clients and checking emails, phone calls, etc. Sometimes I get to take field trips to clients and see how they’re doing, see their samples, how their operations are going. And because of my role, I check in with other teams especially the lab to make sure everything is going right and see if there are any problems, like if samples need to be rerun or if we need to request more sample.
What do you love about your job?
I think for me its getting to meet people who have the same love for cannabis that I do. Maybe they’re just getting into it and I can help them understand how important what we do is. Or even just changing the stigma of cannabis and the chance to make the market safer and bigger. It’s very eye-opening and rewarding.
What is your relationship with cannabis?
I battle with mental health issues like depression and anger. I was actually introduced to buddhism and cannabis in the same year and it change my life. Cannabis gives me peace of mind. For someone who is always negative and in their head, it’s very helpful to be able to zen out and focus on other things.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I just had a baby so my new fun thing is to play with the baby all the time. My number one hobby outside of work is being in nature, I love to bird watch. If I don’t get outside and look at my birds it’s a problem.
Any future plans?
My wife and I want to start a multi medium studio. We want just a safe and happy place where anyone can create anything they want with any materials they want. It will be like a YMCA for art.
Who’s your favorite musical artist?
Bob Marley, my dad showed him to me and explained all the lyrics and meanings behind the music so it means a lot to me and he will always have a place in my heart.
What’s your favorite movie?
“xThe fountain” which is about a man who travels through time on a quest for immortality and to save the woman he loves. I like those mind-bending movies.
